Loft Conversion in Hove, Sussex
This super creative client in Hove is an artist. He wanted to transform his loft into a new studio where he could work on his projects away from the hustle and bustle of family life.
He brought some really interesting ideas to the design process, including his salvaged letters from an old printing press. He'd bought the pieces at auction with no clear purpose in mind for them but asked if we could include them in his studio.
We used them as handles for the bespoke storage areas we created within the eaves. The wooden letters are the only clues as to what would otherwise be concealed.
Every artist needs to wash his brushes, even in a loft, so we built a unit for a butler's sink using salvaged materials.
To allow light to flood into the studio, we fitted a large window with stunning views across the city, and two Velux windows in the new roof.
Bespoke shelving was required in order to house our client's vast collection of art reference books, and a specific height was required for each shelf due to these books mainly being large hardbacks.
The whole studio was then completed with our client's effortless and almost accidental talent for design-led placement of objects.
